$23.95 - $29.10 per hour

At Spectrum Care, we provide support for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives. We have 4 ladies between the ages of 50 – 60 residing in our San Merino house in Henderson. They are hearing impaired with 2 ladies severely intellectually disabled.
These ladies live semi‑independent lives and often visit activity centres during the day, enjoy doing puzzles, volunteering for the SPCA, watching movies, cooking, and they love a good citrus cake. The smell of freshly baked cakes will often be wafting through the house. Their families drop by daily so the house is always a hive of activity.
Skills & Experience
Ability to communicate using NZ Sign Language will be advantageous but not required
Understanding and respect of the deaf culture
Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability
Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot
Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations
Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
Good at explaining and negotiating
Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
The ideal candidate will have:
An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification – we can support you to achieve this while you work
Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary
Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
A full New Zealand driver's licence
Able to pass a NZ police check
The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time
A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) – this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2
