Company Overview
At Beltways, our story begins with bold vision and personal conviction. I'm John, CEO and Co-founder, and together with my brother, we left our careers at Apple and Fenwick in San Francisco to commercialize our father's patents and realize a sci‑fi dream. We are building a new kind of American OEM, focused on fully connected, autonomous, shared, and electric accelerators — imagine moving walkways in airports, but ten times faster, completely modular, and without the need for major construction. Our mission is to create essential infrastructure for the world's busiest places, and America's first accelerator is set to launch next year. If you're energized by the chance to help invent the next "elevator" that could become fundamental to modern mobility, we'd love to meet you.

About The Role
As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be hands‑on at every level — from defining long‑term product vision to tackling day‑to‑day engineering tasks. We're a small, tight‑knit, and ambitious team, so you'll own everything from hands‑on CAD work on complex machines to design reviews, supplier communication, documentation, as well as supporting multi‑disciplinary teams. You'll drive cost reduction, DFM, and high‑volume production strategies while ensuring the highest engineering standards and deep technical rigor across the board.

Key Responsibilities

Own the full lifecycle of mechanical design: concept, CAD, prototyping, testing, documentation, and launch.

Lead cost reduction and DFM for scalable production (sheet metal, casting, etc.).

Create and manage subsystem specifications aligned with product/system requirements.

Use CAD tools, primarily NX, for mechanical design and analysis.

Participate in technical and cross‑functional reviews with software and systems teams.

Ensure documentation quality, process discipline, and engineering rigor.

Troubleshoot and mentor hands‑on, supporting teammates at all levels.

Learn and apply relevant codes and standards (especially ASME A17.1).

Champion an inclusive, humble, and high‑performance team culture.

Your Impact & Outcomes

Deliver cost‑effective, manufacturable systems that raise industry standards.

Drive projects from big‑picture vision through detailed execution and documentation.

Help build a high‑trust, high‑performance engineering team with shared ownership.

Create America's first accelerator and the only one operating in the world!

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Systems, or Mechatronics Engineering.

5–10 years of hands‑on experience, including commercializing new products.

Expertise in high‑volume production, DFM, FEA, and GD&T.

Proficient in CAD (NX preferred), simulation, and PDM systems.

Experience in conveyance, robotics, industrial automation, automotive, or mobility systems preferred.

PE license or ability to obtain one preferred.

Equally comfortable leading strategy and executing detailed tasks.

Process‑driven, collaborative, curious, and team‑first.

Why Join Beltways?

Join a high‑performing team with copious amounts of ingenuity and curiosity.

Lead commercialization for a world‑first product.
