Summary
Maintenance Worker I daily tasks include completing maintenance activities, landscaping, light construction, natural resource restoration and facility repairs on a region basis, as assigned. Perform routine maintenance of parks, historic sites and trails to ensure all facilities are clean, safe and maintained at an acceptable level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate equipment such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers and other power equipment, and assist in preventive maintenance.

Assist in all aspects of landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal and trash pick‑up and disposal.

Perform necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs.

Perform routine inspections of all facilities noting needed repairs and ensuring sites are safe for public use.

Follow all directed County safety procedures.

Assist with natural resource management projects.

Supervise part‑time maintenance workers as needed.

Perform minor plumbing and carpentry tasks.

Routinely drive County vehicles and assist in the preventative and routine maintenance of such vehicles.

Coordinate and monitor volunteers and community service personnel involved in maintenance projects.

Notify Region Foreman on status of supplies required for daily operations and projects.

Perform snow removal duties.

Assist in all light construction activities.

Assist in all aspects of building maintenance including cleaning restrooms, offices and rental facilities.

Take training as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Experience in building, construction or grounds/landscape maintenance and associated equipment.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

Ability to fill out daily work forms.

Ability to work in public areas in a safe manner.

Project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.

Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Effective communication skills.

Possess a valid Driver’s License, a satisfactory driving record and maintain one throughout employment.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear regularly.

Hands used to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands or arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn when applicable.

Ability to climb, stoop, bend, reach, walk, sit or stand for long periods.

Lift and use handheld equipment up to 20 pounds for prolonged periods.

Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.

Work Environment

Work in the field; may experience occasional exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation (poison ivy, etc.) and other hazards (animals, bees, etc.).

Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, ice and rain.

Work at various sites as assigned.

Required to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.

Be available for emergencies outside normal working hours.

Appropriate dress and protective footwear required.

Noise level usually moderate to loud.
