
Transportation Construction Inspector

Position Summary
The Transportation Construction Inspector performs daily inspection and documentation of roadway and bridge construction projects to ensure compliance with Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), and contract requirements. The role supports accurate quantity tracking, material verification, and pay item preparation to ensure proper project documentation and audit readiness.
Essential Job Functions
Perform daily inspection of roadway and bridge construction activities to ensure conformance with contract documents, plans, and specifications.
Maintain detailed daily reports of construction activities, including subcontractor work.
Measure, calculate, and compute quantities of materials and completed work.
Prepare as-built drawings and project pay items to support audits and progressive estimates.
Obtain and verify material tickets and invoices to ensure correct materials are delivered and documented.
Calculate and document asphalt and concrete placement quantities accurately.
Utilize Microsoft Office, SiteManager, and ProjectWise software to manage documentation and run progressive estimates.
Interpret contracts, special provisions, plans, and specifications.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, sub-consultants, contractors, and clients.
Adhere to safety protocols and project requirements while working in field environments.
Required Qualifications
Experience in roadway and/or bridge construction inspection.
Knowledge of ODOT construction standards, specifications, and methods.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, as-builts, and associated contract documents.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Experience with SiteManager and ProjectWise software.
Ability to calculate construction material quantities, including asphalt and concrete placement.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to obtain required AASHTO material testing certifications within three (3) months of hire.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and traverse unfinished grades and uneven terrain.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional nighttime shifts as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience on ODOT and/or Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) projects.
Current AASHTO material testing certifications.
OSHA 10 certification.
Confined space certification.
Fall protection certification.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
Ability to walk, stand, and traverse rough or unfinished terrain for extended periods.
Ability to occasionally lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
Ability to ascend/descend ladders and enter confined spaces as required.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
Primarily outdoor work environment (approximately 90% field-based) with exposure to variable weather conditions.
Exposure to active construction sites, heavy equipment, moderate to high noise levels, and uneven terrain.
Potential exposure to hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, and air and waterborne pathogens.
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Work Location: Tulsa, OK (field-based).
