Description
The Maritime System Division of Leidos is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our Long Beach, MS office to work with our engineering and production teams as we develop and produce cutting‑edge solutions to address existing and emerging missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies, and commercial clients.

Primary Responsibilities

Support and/or lead the design, development, installation, and maintenance of a variety of sub‑surface, surface, and land‑based electro‑mechanical systems.

Create and modify detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings using SolidWorks.

Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and take design input from multiple disciplines with responsibility for timely completion of tasks of significant impact to operational results or project deliverables.

Perform tasks to completion independently, suggest solutions to technical problems, and serve on a design review team.

Prepare and/or review proposed engineering change documents, test plans, and test reports.

Work with production staff to ensure products are manufactured as designed and in a timely manner.

Participate in product verification testing designed to ensure requirements are being met.

Present mechanical designs and justify engineering decisions during engineering reviews internally within the company and externally with customers and stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited program; 4‑8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 2‑6 years of prior experience.

Prior experience or knowledge with unmanned maritime vehicles and associated sensors, underwater cables/connectors, launch and recovery subsystems, acoustic sensors, and/or EMI mitigations.

Deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of mechanical engineering.

Proficiency with the SolidWorks suite.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills, with excellent written and oral communication.

US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Self‑motivated with a desire to learn and perform diverse work.

Ability to work well with others and communicate and understand verbal and written instructions.

Detail oriented.

Average physical mobility to move around an office and lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Hands‑on experience working on electro‑mechanical assemblies.

Prior experience with HVAC systems design and thermal management.

Prior experience designing systems to operate long‑term in highly corrosive environments.

Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or higher.

Experience with finite element analysis for structural, vibration, and thermal simulations.

Experience working in an ISO manufacturing environment.

Experience working with PTC Windchill PLM.

Pay and Benefits
Pay range: $87,100.00 – $157,450.00. Benefits include competitive compensation, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement options.
