
Patient Business Representative - MSW-PT Nights

Responsibilities
Collect, verify, and input patient information paperwork with appropriate financial and demographic forms into the M.I.S system
Obtain all old medical record numbers from the Medical Records Department for patients previously in the system, or when appropriate assign new medical record number
Receive information from the Emergency Department on incoming emergency admissions
Admit and interview patients scheduled for elective, emergency, OB, ambulatory surgery and pre‑admission prior to admission to the hospital following established procedures
Register people for private outpatient registration office and complete corresponding charge forms and documentation
Register patients having pre‑admission testing services
Interview patients privately before, during or after the services for financial screening to update insurance information or other pertinent data
Ensure all admissions are given admission information which includes the Patient’s Bill of Rights, discharge information, a welcome booklet, hospital policies and procedures regarding room rates and financial obligations
Prepare and distribute daily admission and census lists
Verify patient financial class codes are correct and refer patient to Medicaid Expeditors when the patient does not have coverage
Notify Medical A.C. of all private teaching admissions
Assign patient beds and initiate patient bed transfers when necessary
Enter relevant discharge and transfer information into the computer
Accept telephone and in‑person requests from physicians for patients accommodations
Assure placement of patients’ name on “Elective or Emergency” list
Act as billing liaison for the patient, prepare bills, collect, deposit, and give receipts for payments; update the billing system to reflect payments and keep track of complete and incomplete accounts in a separate filing system
Close all PROP, PAT and Ambulatory Surgery visits in the M.I.S. system
Process and file birth certificates
Process and file death certificates
Contact Nursing Stations to obtain expected discharge information
Release bodies to funeral director; notify morgue attendant for family members who wish to view deceased
Communicate with Housekeeping & Nursing regarding status of patients’ bed using BedBoard system
May be required to act as a messenger or patient transporter and provide backup/relief to the clinic cashiers
Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED required.
Experience with healthcare insurance verification and front desk registration.
Minimum 2 years of registration experience within a medical setting (doctor’s office, hospital). Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Knowledgeable in medical health insurances and front desk registration.

Compensation
The salary range for the role is $28.23 - $30.28 per hour. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need.
