Job Summary
This position supports the mission of Swedish Medical Center by optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Under the supervision of the clerical coordinator, performs surgery scheduling for all OR’s, Procedural Areas (i.e., GI and Cath Lab) and the Pre-Procedure Unit. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. The Lead Scheduler (LS) position builds upon the core functions of the OR scheduler. The LS maintains scheduling responsibilities while incorporating advanced knowledge and skills while serving as the subject matter expert for the Meditech OR Scheduling Grid. Advanced skills will include responsibilities to oversee the orientation of new Surgery Schedulers, preparing monthly metrics, and managing surgery blocks in collaboration with the Business Manager. The LS exemplifies and instills in others, the ICARE program, and also exhibits excellent inter-departmental and intra-department communication skills. The LS will serve as a role model to coworkers by reflecting the behavioral standards and values of Swedish Medical Center as set for the by the facility.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures (i.e., attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc.)
Respects patient rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Attends unit specific education sessions
Establish and build strong relationships across a broad range of departments and roles
Ability to utilize databases, spreadsheet, word processing to schedule procedures and develop metric reports
Ability to prioritize competing priorities
Attention to detail while accurately performing data entry
Position Requirements
Licensure/Certification/Registration: None Required
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Formal training course in medical terminology preferred
Experience: Must be able to type 40-40 WPM. Good customer service skills and communication skills are required. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Meditech are preferred. A strong candidate will have a solid grasp of surgical terminology and surgical procedures. Previous experience in the OR environment will be helpful for the candidate seeking employment in this capacity
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic to advanced knowledge of computers; skills with scheduling systems preferred; typing and word processing skills required; intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills in medical terminology. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers
