Plan Checker II - Journey Level
to join our team in Southern California!
Position Summary
Performs independent review of a broad range of civil infrastructure plans and exercises professional judgment in applying municipal standards and requirements.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Independently review civil plans and technical documents
Coordinate directly with applicants and municipal staff
Provide responses to technical questions regarding comments and corrections
Independently evaluate coordination between multiple civil disciplines and supporting documents
Identify and resolve plan coordination issues affecting constructability, quantities, or compliance
Participate in technical coordination meetings or calls with project engineers as needed
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
3–6 years of progressively responsible experience in:
Civil plan review
Municipal public works engineering
Private land development or infrastructure design
Strong working knowledge of:
Grading and drainage design
Stormwater management and LID requirements
Water, sewer, and storm drain infrastructure
Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Preferred Skills and Experience
Prior experience supporting California cities, counties, or special districts
Familiarity with:
Greenbook (Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction)
Caltrans standards and specifications
County drainage, hydrology, or flood control manuals
Strong written communication and technical documentation skills
Ability to work independently in a consultant support role
Salary Range
$80,000 to $110,000 (DOE)
