
Maintenance Worker

This is a semi-skilled manual labor position. This position is responsible for maintaining grounds of City property. See addendum for additional specific departmental duties.
Those functions actually required to perform this position, the removal of which would fundamentally change the job. These are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Responsibilities
Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns or athletic fields, trimming and edging walks, flower beds, and walls, pruning shrubs and trees, spraying herbicides and insecticides, fertilizing and raking.
Clean grounds and remove litter.
Plant and water grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Repair structures such as fences, gates, walls, and walks.
Paint fences and outbuildings.
Pour new sidewalks and streets.
Operate various motorized equipment such as mowing equipment, trucks, tractors, 5 yd dump trucks, etc.
Perform irrigation maintenance and repairs such as cleaning out drainage ditches and culverts, installing plumbing, storm drainage lines or sprinkler systems, identifying pipe specifications, etc.
Repair and maintain streets or facilities such as sports fields or playgrounds.
Perform other semi‑skilled and unskilled labor such as basic carpentry, electric, roofing and plumbing repairs.
Provide routine and basic maintenance and repair to small equipment.
Attend work promptly and regularly.
Perform related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.
This position is part of the City’s Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal regular salary shall be outlined by the City Manager in the City’s Emergency Management Activation and Emergency Declaration. Failure to appear to perform emergency management assignment and to work assigned shifts as scheduled by the City’s Emergency Management Director or individuals designated by the City Manager to assign such functions will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Two (2) years related experience and/or training, including experience in operating automotive or maintenance equipment.
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Some knowledge of tools, methods, materials and equipment used in performance of maintenance related work.
Knowledge of occupational hazards as necessary safety precautions applicable to laboring work.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work related documents.
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of mathematical concepts as applied to this position.
Ability to follow and interpret instructions furnished in written and oral format.
Ability to use tools and equipment related to this position.
Ability to perform assigned tasks under limited supervision.
