Description
Manhattan Youth (Center School) is seeking a part-time After‑School Administrative Teaching Assistant to support our Middle School after‑school program for the 2025–2026 school year.

We are looking for an organized, tech‑savvy individual who is comfortable working with computers and digital systems to help support the daily operations of our after‑school program. This role focuses primarily on administrative coordination, data management, and supporting program staff with technology and organization.

As an

Administrative Teaching Assistant , you will play an important role in keeping the program running smoothly behind the scenes. Responsibilities include assisting with attendance tracking, maintaining student records, organizing schedules and rosters, managing digital documents, and supporting communication with staff and families. This role will also assist with preparing materials, coordinating logistics for activities, and ensuring program information is accurate and up to date.

The ideal candidate is

highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working with technology , particularly Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Candidates should be able to navigate spreadsheets, manage digital files, assist with basic troubleshooting, and support staff with general computer‑related tasks. Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced school environment are essential.

Qualified candidates will be

punctual, reliable, personable, and professional , with a willingness to support both administrative tasks and the broader after‑school team when needed. The right candidate will enjoy working in a school setting and helping create an organized and supportive environment that allows the program and its staff to operate effectively.

This is a part‑time, hourly position available during the school year from September through June, following the NYC DOE school calendar.

After‑school programs run from

3:15 to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 2:30 to 5:30 pm on Friday.

Pay: $20/hour.

Primary Responsibilities

Greet students, assist with attendance tracking, and help supervise students during key transition periods such as arrival, snack time, activity changes, and dismissal.

Support staff with administrative tasks including maintaining attendance records, organizing student rosters, managing digital documents, and updating program information.

Assist Activity Specialists with preparing materials, organizing schedules, and coordinating daily program logistics.

Provide basic technology support to staff, including working with Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, shared documents, and other program systems.

Maintain open communication with the Site Director, Activity Specialists, and other staff to ensure program operations run smoothly.

Help ensure the safety and supervision of students during program transitions and assist staff in addressing occasional emergencies.

Participate in professional development opportunities and develop skills in program coordination and administrative support.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

2+ years after‑school, camp or classroom experience or currently pursuing a degree in education or a related field.

Excellent communication skills, ability to express ideas clearly.

Ability to work on a team, take initiative, proactively address challenges, and maintain a positive attitude.

Willingness to learn, work hard and take responsibility.

Excellent references.

Previous experience working with children in an after‑school program preferred.

Past participation in theater groups, varsity sports, ongoing art competency or significant volunteer experiences a plus.
