Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities Division, the instructor will teach Paralegal Studies courses to a diverse student population. Responsibilities include:
Teaching lower‑division undergraduate courses in federal and state law overviews, specialized practice groups such as litigation, corporate law, intellectual property, and estate planning.
Developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum in areas of expertise and lecturing where appropriate.
Teaching online modalities and maintaining scheduled office hours.
Attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and serving on district or college committees.
Participating in campus extracurricular activities, shared governance, or program/department leadership roles as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) and at least two years of experience in legal assisting (paralegal).
OR
Associate degree and at least six years of experience in legal assisting (paralegal) or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
College‑level instructional experience in law‑related fields such as Paralegal Studies, Political Science, or Administration of Justice.
Hands‑on experience in one or more legal practice areas.
Five or more years of experience working as a paralegal in a law firm, corporate, non‑profit, or government setting.
Familiarity with technologies and equipment required for teaching in lecture, course management systems, laboratory, or clinical settings.
Instructional pedagogy adaptable to inclusive, equity‑driven practices and multiple learning styles, emphasizing interactive multimedia, research, technology, and hands‑on experiences.
Experience with paralegal‑related program administration.
Demonstrated ability to create or develop curriculum.
Familiarity with the complex relationship among society, politics, and the legal system and ability to facilitate challenging classroom discussions.
