This position is for a music teacher (instrumental or vocal) at East Smiths Station Elementary School, located in Smiths Station, Alabama.

Job Description
MUSIC TEACHER (INSTRUMENTAL OR VOCAL)

Responsible for teaching music appreciation, harmony, and instrumental and vocal music to elementary students using the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education. The teacher will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, provide individual and small‑group instruction, and assess student progress.

Qualifications

Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by Lee County Board of Education.

Hold an appropriate Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.

Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks.

Meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002‑457.

Alternatives may be considered by the Board if appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required : Employees must submit fingerprints for background review by the Alabama and federal Bureaus of Investigation.

Job Goals : Help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Attend regularly and remain on duty 15 minutes before and after school.

Teach music appreciation, harmony, and instrumental and vocal music to secondary students using the Board’s curriculum.

Provide individual and small‑group instruction to adapt curriculum to each student’s needs.

Maintain a positive classroom climate and manage music instruction efficiently.

Select repertoire appropriate for students’ ages and skill levels.

Organize and control the storage and use of instruments, materials, and equipment.

Develop lesson plans, assess growth, and communicate progress to parents and counselors.

Cooperate with other staff to address student needs, conduct referrals, and supervise out‑of‑classroom activities.

Participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activities.

Maintain professional competence through in‑service and self‑selected growth activities.

Prepare and organize class materials, maintain accurate records, and evaluate student progress regularly.

Provide support to the school community and promote good public relations.

Perform other duties as requested by the principal to ensure safe and effective school operation.

Essential Physical Demands
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to 40–50 pounds, and occasional field‑trip travel. Requires vocal, hearing, and visual acuity. Ability to lift and move a minimum of 20–25 pounds and perform tasks such as stooping and kneeling.

Environmental Demands
Work in classrooms, band rooms, gymnasiums, and auditoriums. Exposure to various weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise is expected.

Mental Functions
Compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, assess, and manage interpersonal relationships. Occasionally copy and negotiate tasks.

Employment
9‑month contract (187 days) based on the board‑approved salary schedule.

Evaluation
Performance evaluated per the Board’s Professional Personnel evaluation policy.

$48,629 to $96,819 Per Year

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
