Job Description
Overview
Danville Community School District is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position is responsible for providing high-quality specialized instruction to students with diverse disabilities, focusing on academic, social and life skills in grades 7-12.
Qualifications
Valid Iowa Teaching License required
Bachelor’s degree in Education
Valid Endorsement in 5-12 Instructional Strategist I: Mild/Moderate 261
Valid Endorsement in 5-12 Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD 263 OR ID 264 (preferred but not required)
Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
Passion for teaching and commitment to the success of all learners.
Experience working with junior high and high school students (preferred but not required).
Responsibilities
IEP Management
Develop, implement and track individualized education programs (IEPs), ensuring compliance with legal standards
Instruction
Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students with mild to moderate or severe disabilities
Curriculum Modification
Adapt general education curriculum and materials to meet individual learning needs
Assessment & Monitoring
Regularly assess student progress, using data to adjust teaching techniques
Transition Planning
Prepare students for life after high school, including college, vocational training or independent living
Collaboration
Participate in grade-level and school-wide professional learning communities.
Work closely with colleagues and administrators to support student success and school initiatives.
Coordinate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and specialists
Professional Development
Stay current with best practices in special education through ongoing professional learning.
Engage in district-provided and external opportunities to grow as an educator.
