Special Education McCarthy Teszler Teacher Assistant
FLSA:
Non-Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Special Education Classroom Teacher, the Special Needs Assistant provides general teaching assistance; provides classroom teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills and behaviors, academic instructions, and classroom activities.
Reports to:
Building level Administrator
Performance Responsibilities
Provides support to students with special needs in a classroom setting.
Assists the teacher in implementing lesson plans and individualized learning strategies.
Helps students with daily activities, including academic work, social skills, and self-care tasks.
Fosters a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Supports students with mobility, communication, and behavioral needs as required.
Monitors student progress as directed by the classroom teacher.
Communicates effectively with teachers, staff, and parents as directed by the classroom teacher.
Ensures the safety and well-being of students at all times.
Displays the ability to take directions and implement tasks effectively.
Performs other related duties as required.
Job Specifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma (required).
Associate’s Degree (60 college credits) or Bachelor’s Degree.
Skills/Effort:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, compassion, and a team-oriented mindset.
Working Conditions:
Office environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Routine local or regional travel required; occasional overnight travel required. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
