Salary Range:

$115,000 - $130,000
Position Summary

Responsible for supervising and participating in activities associated with the profitable repair of ships. Under the guidance of the assigned Project Manager, plans, coordinates, manages, and evaluates work required to repair or modify marine vessels to produce timely, profitable results and satisfy customers. The incumbent must be self-disciplined, resourceful, and willing to accept responsibility for yard and customer assets related to the assigned project. Exercises independent judgment in adjusting priorities, goals, and work assignments to facilitate vessel repairs and shipyard maintenance. Overall goals, budgets, and priorities are established jointly with the appropriate manager where applicable. Progress and performance are monitored through periodic evaluation.

Essential Functions And Major Responsibilities

Experienced Ship Superintendent with a successful record of accomplishment on the type of vessel and customer assigned.
Production leader on projects of any size or customer.
Leads, manages and coordinates ship superintendents, subcontractors, ship’s crew, and AITs across multiple work items and ship systems.
Capable of reading drawings and understanding complex technical work.
Ensures sequencing of work to meet key events and milestones.
Capable of managing the restoration and testing of ship systems.
Understands the Vigor Project Management Model and serves as a business partner with the Project Manager to execute project strategy, including increasing margin.
Manages the Ship’s Safety Plan and recommends changes relevant to specific work in the monthly update.
Manages the completion of test and inspection plans and ensures timely submissions of checkpoints by all stakeholders.
Understands scheduling principles and earned value management; capable of understanding CPI and SPI and recognizing status of each work item and changes needed to meet budget.
Develops staffing plans to meet budgets and adjusts plans as needed.
Reviews all change orders for professionalism, objectivity, grammar, and effective mitigation of risk.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of marine-related equipment, ship repair and construction techniques; sequencing of ship repair activities; shipyard safety practices; and complex mathematical principles as applied to shipping activities.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and employees.
Read, analyze, and interpret ship repair specifications, blueprints, and relevant technical publications and regulations.
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; influence those not in the direct line of authority to accomplish tasks.
Proficient with personal computers and office software (word processing, spreadsheets).
Interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Work with multiple abstract and concrete variables; resolve conflicts and provide positive customer service.

Education And/Or Experience

An Associate’s degree in any technical skill related to ship repair.
Four to six (4 to 6) years of progressively more complex work experience demonstrating required ship repair and production management skills.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

None required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position are light to moderate. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment. The incumbent may need to stand for extended periods in external climates, walk over uneven surfaces, and occasionally climb ladders and ship elements. Use of tools requires manual dexterity and fine motor movement.

Work Environment

The work environment is demanding and potentially hazardous due to work on or inside ships and travel around ship repair yards. This role is with a federally contracted employer and is subject to regulations that restrict employment to US Persons.
