Caterer (Student Employment)
Position Overview: The Weld RE-5J school district is seeking a highly motivated and talented high‑school student to join our catering team. This opportunity will provide valuable hands‑on experience and exposure to various aspects of food service and hospitality while working in a professional environment. The student caterer will assist the food and hospitality team in performing food‑service‑oriented tasks and supporting the organization’s digital infrastructure. This position demands outstanding communication skills, problem‑solving abilities, and multitasking capabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with menu planning
Work collaboratively with a team to handle all food preparation and cooking at school‑sponsored events and activities
In conjunction with the catering team, support inventory management of all materials and food in the RHS Branding Iron
Support setup, breakdown and cleanup at all catering events
Oversee the service of food and beverages to guests during events, ensuring food is served at the appropriate temperature, maintaining presentation standards, and replenishing dishes as needed
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
Currently enrolled in a high‑school program, preferably with a focus on food service or related fields
Possess a foundation in cooking techniques and food preparation, including food‑safety practices
Have the ability to juggle multiple events simultaneously
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively
Ability to plan ahead, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Effective communication is key
Be friendly, professional, and attentive to client needs, ensuring a positive experience for all guests
From menu planning to food presentation, meticulous attention to detail is crucial
Catering often involves working as part of a team, whether in the kitchen or at events
Collaborate effectively with colleagues, supporting each other to deliver outstanding results
Education and Training
Students will need to be enrolled in Prostart I or Prostart II courses. Students will be eligible for payment after they have met the required hours for successful completion of coursework. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Work‑based Learning: Family and Consumer Science in the 2024‑2025 school year.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
