Job Description

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as a teacher for 6 and 7‑year‑old students at Jackson Elementary. This position will begin in August 2026 and is funded with Title dollars. Montessori certification or willingness to obtain Montessori certification is required.
Required Qualifications

Valid Iowa teaching license on a standard or master educator license.
Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
Willingness to obtain Montessori certification.
Desired Qualifications

Previous classroom teaching experience.
Experience in an urban school district.
Montessori certification.
Responsibilities

Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets academic and social‑emotional needs.
Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
Monitor student learning daily and use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
Communicate with families regularly.
Participate in professional development.
Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
Additional Essential Functions

Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
Physical Requirements

Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying.
Working Conditions

Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess, arrival, and dismissal.
