Job Summary
The Transmission Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating all necessary machines required to assist Transmission work for customers. This position supports the team and works with personnel within the department.

Responsibilities

Operate jobsite equipment safely, including mobile cranes, bulldozers, angle dozers, front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, track hoe, trenchers, digger-derricks, or other construction equipment.

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized work.

Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machines; check oil and fluids.

Inspect work area to ensure it has been staked or located prior to digging.

Work with maintenance crew or assist as laborer when not operating equipment.

Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.

Train, guide, or oversee work of lower graded operators and laborers when needed.

Comply with proper safety standards, procedures and work practices according to MasTec or the customer, whichever standard is higher.

Load trucks safely and accident-free.

Work to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide timely customer service.

Operate wire pulling equipment such as tensioners, 4‑drum pullers, single hardline pullers, breakdown rigs and other pulling equipment related to Transmission line work.

Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least 2 years of relevant experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to work for extended periods in various locations when required.

OSHA 10 Certification.

CDL Class A driver’s license (required).

Current and valid crane certification.

Crane certification that meets OSHA/ASME standards such as NCCCO or NCCER.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing and twisting. Work is performed in inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow and wind.

Precise hand‑eye coordination, the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and clear vision (20 feet or more or 20 inches or less) are required. This position is physically active and requires the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
