Commercial Heating Engineer

Hays is working in partnership with a leading facilities services provider to recruit an experienced Commercial Heating Engineer for a full-time, permanent role based at RAF Lakenheath. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified engineer to work within a secure, well‑structured environment, supporting critical heating infrastructure across multiple sites.
The Role
Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of commercial heating systems across RAF Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Feltwell. The role includes a 1‑in‑6/7 on‑call rota with some weekend working. All jobs are issued via a tablet, allowing you to self‑schedule and manage workloads efficiently while meeting agreed SLAs.
Maintenance and repair of oil, LPG and gas‑fired boiler systems
Delivering planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs
Ensuring all systems operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance
Supervising contractors and supporting site continuity
Maintaining high health & safety standards at all times
Ensuring plant rooms are safe, compliant and fully operational
Accurate digital reporting and job updates via tablet systems
What We're Looking For
A recognised mechanical or engineering qualification
Gas Safe registration
Proven experience working on commercial heating systems
LPG experience (desirable but not essential)
Working knowledge of HVAC systems, BMS, and electrical isolation
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
Confidence using digital systems for job management and reporting
Due to the nature of the site, candidates must be eligible for DBS checks and Security Clearance (SC).
