A Little Bit About the Position
The Senior BI Data Engineer’s purpose at Gemini is to organize and design comprehensive data collection, organization, analysis, and support. This role acts as an analytics engineer, sculpting enterprise-quality data warehouse solutions that support fast visualization providing actionable insights that support strategic business decisions. The Senior BI Data Engineer role owns the technical design of our Snowflake environment - dimensional modeling, transformation frameworks, data quality infrastructure and standards. This critical data engineering role involves architecting and managing the processes and procedures for the complete data lifecycle—from comprehensive data collection and organization to detailed analysis. The right candidate can translate business requirements into production-grade technical implementations.
Working within the Engineering team in close partnership with the BI Product Owner, the Senior BI Data Engineer is an experienced, self‑motivated, and detail‑oriented contributor that provides the technical depth the team needs to establish modern data engineering practices, select the right tooling, and build the foundation for scalable analytics capabilities. This individual acts as a core architect for both data warehouse structure and data presentation.

Hybrid / Remote in Rocklin, CA HQ - 2 days in office weekly
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Compensation:
$145,000 - $174,000 Annually
The pay range for this role is $145,000 - $174,000 Annually. Starting pay for new hires is typically within the lower third of the range: $145,000-$154,667 Annually. Exceptions may be made based on factors such as education, specialized skills, or significant relevant experience.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the BI team, collaboratively design and engage engineering best practices (code review processes, git workflows, CI/CD, and version control for analytics code and database objects)
Collaborate within the BI team to follow and keep up to date “Definition of Done” agreements
Collaborate within the BI team to architect and design modern, scalable warehouse architecture (Snowflake: dimensional models for reporting)
Evaluate and recommend modern orchestration and transformation tooling. Collaborate with the Director of Engineering on Build vs. Buy decisions for tools and infrastructure
Collaborate within the BI Team to architect and design processes and standards for database object design including primary and foreign keys, audit columns, as well as establish naming conventions, and object standards
Optimize warehouse performance via partitioning, clustering, query design and other processes to balance execution speed against cost
Collaborate within the BI Team to build repeatable transformation patterns and establish standards for how data moves from raw ingestion through staging to reporting layers
Collaborate within the BI Team to design and implement data quality monitoring frameworks including quarantine tables, alerts, and error handling
Architect operational dashboards that track pipeline health, data freshness, volume anomalies, schema drift, changes in error rates, etc.
Design and develop data warehouse structures to support Tableau explorer-users finding and working with the data they need
Design and implement data processes and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to fellow BI team members with: SQL, view design, and data modeling concepts
Ensure compliance with data integrity, security, and company policies in all analytical tasks
Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in data analysis and visualization
Exercise independent judgment and discretion while performing complex work and regularly collaborating with the Director of Engineering

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience level, required
6+ years of progressive professional experience in data work
Proven track record of designing and building production data warehouses
Skills:
Advanced time management and organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Fundamental orientation to collaborative work styles
Ability to handle a high volume of work and function in a fast‑paced environment, on deadline
Self‑motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Technology:
Proficient using a computer, office software, video conferencing, and other computer programs including Google Workplace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
Extensive experience in database management, database development, data querying with SQL
Proficiency in at least one coding language for the use of data analytics (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
Experience using data visualization tools like Tableau
Experience with ETL/ELT best practices, data pipeline design, and orchestration tools
Advanced Proficiency in managing and developing data warehouse structures like materialized views and calculated fields to support fast analyses
Proficiency in developing and working with OLAP/data summary structures in a data warehouse setting
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Other:
