Qualifications
Completion of secondary education or equivalent, plus six (6) months experience in institutional preparation, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Valid driver’s license.
Equipment Operated
The following are examples only and are not intended to all inclusive:
Commercial ranges/ovens/microwaves/grills, blenders, mixers, slicers, knives, dishwashers, steamtables, and deep fryer.
Inherently Hazardous or Physically Demanding Working Conditions
Fire, electrical issues, burns, slipping, improper handling of kitchen equipment; cuts from knives and other sharp objects.
Essential Functions of the Position
Operates/utilizes various kitchen appliances and utensils to prepare food for persons residing in or confined to County facilities (e.g., operates/utilizes range, oven, grill, steam table, deep fryer, pots, pans, knives, etc., to cook meats, vegetables, soups; prepare salads and sandwiches; bake desserts, etc.).
Sets up trays and/or tables and serves food and beverages to residents; serves controlled portions as instructed.
Cleans food preparation and food service areas following completion of meals (e.g., washes utensils, cleans appliances, wipes counter tops, mops floors, etc.).
Receives deliveries and stores food; cans and freezes fresh produce.
Shift
10am - 6:30pm
Minimum Acceptable Characteristics
Knowledge of : cooking and measurements; safety practices and procedures; food preparation techniques; food storage methods; sanitary practices.
Skills in : use or operation of cooking utensils and appliances.
Ability to : carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; develop and maintain effective working relationships; utilize cleaning materials; prepare food in large quantities.
