
Loss Control Specialist

Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution master limited partnership operating across 32 countries and territories in North America, the Greater Caribbean, and Europe. The Partnership’s midstream operations include an extensive network of approximately 14,000 miles of pipeline and over 160 terminals. This critical infrastructure complements the Partnership’s fuel distribution operations, which distribute over 15 billion gallons annually to approximately 11,000 Sunoco and partner‑branded retail locations, as well as independent dealers and commercial customers.
Position Summary
Provide support and technical expertise in the development and execution of the Loss Control policy that meets accepted industry standards and practices and reduces the company’s exposure to product losses.
Major Accountabilities
Provide guidance and interpretation of the loss control policies
Assist terminals with inventory balancing, product gain/loss, and product quality investigations
Provide comprehensive and detailed loss control and measurement assessments
Be available to respond to emergency inventory and/or product quality situations and assist terminal/pipeline operations as needed
Communicate with asset managers experiencing product variances and provide guidance to resolve imbalances
Monitor and communicate compliance with SOX controls monthly to asset managers
Knowledgeable experience working in various operating and inventory systems, such as TopTech, OMM, and TopHat
Ability to convey and train proper shore tank gauging, temperature determination, and sampling techniques on‑site
Track and document monthly inventory variances, allocation, and exceptions reports to management
Knowledge of various metering systems and how meters impact inventory gain/loss
Follow all safety rules and guidelines
Experience Requirements
The Specialist level requires 2 to 5 years of specific job‑related experience in terminal/pipeline or petroleum industry.
The Sr Specialist level requires 5 to 8 years of specific job‑related experience in terminal/pipeline or petroleum industry.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent job‑related experience
Excellent writing and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
Able to work under pressure in deadline driven & fast‑pace environment
Ability to work independently and hold self accountable to meet deadlines
Capability to multi‑task with good organization skills
Problem solving and decision making with minimal supervision
Takes ownership of assignments and is focused on tasks given
Additional Skills
Ability to read, comprehend and comment to technical specifications
Read and modify technical P&ID diagrams
SAP Software skills a Plus
