Essential Job Functions
Assessing student learning and creating/providing instructional activities to meet DPI requirements
Creating and/or modifying educational curriculum to meet education standards
Teaching various topics to students in a classroom setting
Creating and implementing “hands on” lessons for students
Reviewing and correcting assignments and tests for students
Job Responsibilities
Monitors and appraises emotional progress of students by teaching, coaching, counseling, and disciplining; reviewing students in jeopardy and working with residential services to provide treatment for disruptive behavior.
Assesses student learning and provides education to meet DPI requirements by scheduling and assigning instructional activities and providing feedback to students; eliciting student questions and responses; reviewing and correcting assignments and projects; preparing, administering, and scoring tests.
Maintains records and provides comprehensive student evaluations by documenting learning accomplishments, attendance, and behavior, completing two-week progress reviews, quarterly report cards, and closing summaries.
Maintains stimulating environment and incorporates creative teaching tools by planning “hands on” lessons, using demonstrations, examples, and teaching aids, such as audiovisual equipment and computers.
Guides students’ personal and social development by establishing rules and procedures for administrative matters, student verbal participation, and student movement within the classroom, between classrooms, and during physical activity; facilitating group sessions; refocusing students on career choices, personal strengths, and treatment goals through “scoring” conversations.
Contributes to Starr academy’s effectiveness by establishing and adjusting curriculum and objectives, modifying plans based on student assessments.
