Job Description
Located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood, Amigos is a comprehensive Junior K–8 school that welcomes students from diverse communities and cultural backgrounds. Through school‑community collaborations, Amigos strives to provide quality out‑of‑school‑time programs that foster linguistic and cultural connections. Two‑way immersion fosters high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students, preparing them for the global economy.
The Amigos School seeks to hire a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Math Interventionist to support identified students within a multi‑tiered system of support. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks and Common Core. They will set high expectations, use scaffolding and differentiation, and have experience as a classroom teacher working with students in math.
Students receive instruction in Spanish and English. The Math Interventionist will provide intervention in both languages, collaborating with colleagues to plan a linguistically and culturally responsive curriculum suitable for dual‑language students.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and assess students and collaborate with the school’s math team.
Match student needs with appropriate interventions and monitor progress.
Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school.
Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade‑level activities, and school‑wide and district functions.
Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development.
Participate in school leadership team meetings.
Your Skill Set
Three or more years of experience in a two‑way bilingual setting with language minority students.
High levels of native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including speaking, listening, reading, grammar, and writing.
Awareness of developmental needs of young learners and strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education and/or Mathematics strongly preferred.
Familiarity with and appreciation of PK‑6 students and their needs, issues, and interests.
Previous successful experience working in a multicultural environment with diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio‑economic backgrounds.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
Commitment to equity in education and belief that all students can excel in math.
Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Mathematics or Elementary Education.
Job Requirements
At least 3 years of relevant experience.
Master’s degree preferred.
Citizen, resident, or work visa required.
