Additional Information:

This position is a 0.5 FTE position and will join a Job Share Agreement with another 0.5 FTE Teacher. The Job Share Agreement will outline the work times, calendar work days, shared job responsibilities and communication requirements between both teachers. This position is part of the REACH Signature Program. REACH stands for Rigorous, Enriched, Accelerated Curriculum for the Highly Gifted. REACH provides highly gifted students in grades 14 the opportunity to function at an academic level that is commensurate with their abilities, while having the opportunity to interact socially with students who have similar interests and academic needs. REACH students generally work two grade levels ahead in subject areas, and explore in greater depth subjects that are socially and emotionally appropriate. Students develop a differentiated educational plan in an area of interest that is researched and reported on in both oral and written presentations from first grade on.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Arts Degree

Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate

Appropriately Certified

PREFERRED

Gifted Education Specialist Endorsements

Master’s degree in Education

Three or more years of teaching experience

Experience serving students identified as gifted and talented

JOB GOAL
Provide identified gifted and talented students with appropriate learning experiences that develop potential and lead to advanced academic and social emotional achievement. Provide services for gifted and talented students in 1st through 4th grade, working in collaboration with site administrators and teachers to provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, specifically gifted and talented students through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers through both a content replacement and push-in program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Create and evaluate programming for gifted and talented populations.

Possess and apply knowledge of the educational needs of gifted and talented students.

Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil receiving gifted instruction.

Task analyzes and translates lessons into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Teaches district-approved curriculum.

Uses effective Classroom Management techniques.

Establishes, shares, and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.

Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.

Teaches curriculum aligned to state standards and student needs.

Coplans with colleagues to implement instructional practices to support gifted learners in a transdisciplinary approach

Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.

Maintains a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.

Identification of gifted and talented students in an annual cycle and as required for transfer students.

Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.

Maintains regular attendance

Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Maintains valid certifications, fingerprint card and Appropriately Certified status. Observes teacher calendar and all Madison School District policies. Salary to be determined yearly according to Governing Board approved range.

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated by the building principal or designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises classroom employees, students and volunteers.
