Job Summary
The Alaya Substitute Teacher is responsible for working with the Lead Teacher and other members of the teaching team in the general supervision and management of a class of children. The number of children and staff in the classroom will depend on the classroom assignment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Works with young children ages two to eight under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

Provides joyful, grounded care and supervision for children in the classroom and on the playground, ensuring their safety at all times.

Treats all children with dignity and respect; considers individual needs in relation to cultural and social‑economic background.

Helps teachers implement a daily program that meets developmental, social and emotional skills appropriate for each child.

Maintains classroom appearance, décor, and learning environment and shares housekeeping responsibilities.

Participates in professional development opportunities, including feedback skills and learning about Naropa University’s JEDI initiative.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience working with young children.

CPR and First Aid certification.

CBI, FBI, Trails, and Out of State background checks.

Colorado Professional Development System training list:

Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Preventing Shaken Baby and Abusive Head Trauma.

Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Childcare Providers (FEMA Training).

Recognizing the Impact of Bias on Early Childhood Professionals.

Introduction to Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs.

High emotional intelligence, critical thinking, assertive communication skills.

Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and act professionally with all.

Relate well to children and adults.

Work well with families and staff.

Strong organizational and communication skills; manage multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

Maximum weight to lift/unassisted: 30 lbs.

Stand, walk, sit, run, handle, bend at waist, reach above shoulder, kneel, crouch.

Exposure to interruptions/distractions, heat, cold.
