Elementary Classroom Teacher
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Functions

Develops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as required.

Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations of the school system.

Engages in continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, and research.

Maintains accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.

Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.

Co‑ordinates with other elementary staff, evaluates curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment while maintaining inventory records.

Supervises students during out‑of‑classroom activities, including transportation.

Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.

Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.

Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Effective communication skills with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work conducted in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License: State certification as an elementary teacher; state certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Master’s degree in a related area preferred.

Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
