General Statement

This position will provide direct service to the needs of special education students; evaluate students for special education eligibility; provide a summary of formal and informal assessments; attend evaluation team meetings; administer a variety of standardized tests as well as observe student(s) to determine current levels of performance.
Responsibilities

Develop and implement research-based specially designed instruction (SDI) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with mild and moderate disabilities.
Adapt general education secondary curricula to ensure students can access the grade-level content while meeting their specific IEP goals.
Evaluate students for special education eligibility.
Partner with general education teachers in an inclusion setting to provide push-in SDI and ensure the implementation of accommodations in the general classroom.
Provide direct service to the needs of special education students.
Oversee and provide case management of secondary students, ensuring all legal timelines for annual reviews and three-year re-evaluations are met.
Prepare reports of formal and informal assessments.
Attend and participate in evaluation team meetings.
Develop comprehensive IEPs, including Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) and measurable annual goals.
Facilitate IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and related service providers (SLPs, OTs, etc.).
Coordinate with students and families to develop transition plans that focus on post-secondary education, vocational training, and independent living.
Implement and monitor BIPs for students, utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to maintain a productive learning environment.
Manage escalated classroom situations with approved de-escalation techniques, prioritizing student safety and dignity.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience:
Knowledge of secondary school education.
Case Management; ability to write IEPs and conduct evaluations.
Must be able to provide direct service to students both in and out of the classroom.
Must be able to physically provide classroom control.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Certification & Licensing:
Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements for certification in Special Education grades 7-12.
Authorized to work in the USA
Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
