
Street Laborer

The Street Laborer will be responsible for various assignments within the operation of the Street department. A Laborer must be willing to work with various supervisors. Position requires varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing duties directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patch and/or prepare streets, grades, alleys, shoulders, and City parking lots for asphalt and perform other street work, as necessary.
Perform a variety of tasks, including installation of guardrails, cement pads, conduits, pipes, sidewalks and curbs, maintenance and repair involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, and ordinary electrical work.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on City buildings and assets.
Assist in construction of City buildings and assets.
Operate all motorized equipment such as pickup, dump truck, street sweeper, snowplow, front-end loader, backhoe, roller, road grader, and similar equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment.
Perform any other duties as assigned within the scope of duties and responsibilities outlined in the employee’s signed job description.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
High School graduate or GED.
2 years or more experience preferred.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of municipal government operations, familiarity with City ordinances and proceedings.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
The ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
The ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail amidst a multitask, changing priority environment.
Knowledge of the operation of a wide variety of light to heavy equipment.
Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment utilized in various functions of the Street Department.
The ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited immediate supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently sitting, walking, or standing.
Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
The ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Hold and grip objects.
Occasional periods of sitting in a vehicle.
Susceptible to mechanical hazards associated with light to heavy equipment as well as other safety hazards associated with street functions.
May be exposed to constant or extreme noise, fumes, or odors.
Acceptable Physical Capacity Profile test results are required.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
Must possess or be willing to obtain a Missouri Class A Commercial Driver’s License within the first 12 months of employment. The City will provide training and pay for all costs with contract stipulations.
Have a valid Missouri Driver’s License and must remain insurable under the City’s liability policy.
