Job Description
Position: Custodian – Putnam County School District, Crescent City Jr. - Sr. High School, Crescent City, Florida. Starting date: immediately.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Satisfactory criminal background check.

Prior custodial experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; follow directions and apply common sense in written, oral, or diagram forms.

Knowledge of the current Human Resources leave system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable).

Ability to function as a member of a harmonious, efficient, highly productive team. Use problem‑solving and interpersonal skills to motivate self and others.

Maintain a high degree of initiative and dependability.

Reports To
Head Custodian, Principal or Department Director.

Job Goal
The Custodian will maintain an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility for students, staff, and the public; provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance; and minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure.

Performance Responsibilities

Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating responsibility and pride in the position.

Arrange furnishings and equipment to prepare for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.

Clean assigned school or district facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, restrooms, lunch rooms, halls, carpets, windows, walls, bleachers, stage, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.

Complete employer‑required training to stay knowledgeable about specific job duties, district rules, state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures.

Distribute supplies, equipment, and/or mail (e.g., fill soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers, packages, furniture, TV/VCR carts) to appropriate parties or locations.

Execute minor repairs (e.g., assemble furniture, change ballast, plumbing, lock handling, window work, ceiling tile replacement, filter changes) to ensure items are functional and safe.

Inform students, staff, and visitors about activities, safety, and proper facility maintenance.

Inspect facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations, maintain cleanliness, and report necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.

Maintain supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops) to ensure availability.

Oversee students assigned to cafeteria or other duties (at the high school and middle school) to ensure they receive proper instruction, direction, and oversight while volunteering or assigned to cafeteria detail.

Assist with the timely and satisfactory completion of special projects.

Prepare facilities for daily operations (depending on shift) such as opening gates, raising flags, unlocking doors, and operating crossing signs to ensure facilities are operational and safe.

Assist others in scheduling facilities to ensure accurate scheduling and provide information to those requesting use.

Respond to immediate safety or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms) to resolve safety issues and maintain a functioning educational environment.

Secure facilities and grounds (depending on shift) by locking doors, turning off lights, setting alarms to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and liability.

Perform all other duties assigned by administrators.

Physical Requirements
Heavy work: Exert up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits will follow the district’s approved compensation plan. The work year is ten or twelve months; hours are eight or four per day.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated per PCSD Board’s policy on personnel evaluation.
