Responsibilities

Organizes, assigns, and reviews unit count room activities including unit absentee tracking and inmate housing assignments, ensuring compliance with legal, medical, custodial, and classification restrictions.

Coordinates with security staff to maintain accurate count processes and housing assignments, resolving errors and maintaining the count room board display.

Assists in data entry for accurate record maintenance of unit strength, housing, custody status, job assignments, medical status, absences, and lay‑ins.

Responds to routine inquiries about count room rules and procedures, assists in developing policies, and recommends improvements.

Organizes and oversees work of others, providing training and technical assistance when needed.

Performs additional marginal duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training

Graduation from an accredited senior high school, equivalent, or GED.

Customer service, clerical, secretarial, administrative support, technical program support, or criminal justice experience preferred.

Correctional unit operations experience preferred.

Computer operations experience preferred.

Inmate classification experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of unit count room procedures preferred.

Knowledge of agency and departmental structure, policies, and regulations preferred.

Clear and concise communication skills.

Coordination skills across staff, departments, and agencies.

Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Problem‑solving skills.

Computer proficiency in stand‑alone or LAN environments.

Record, file, and report preparation and maintenance skills.

Planning and organizational skills for work and team assignments.

Physical abilities such as walking, standing, kneeling, pushing, stooping, reaching above shoulder height, grasping, pulling, bending, climbing stairs, identifying colors, hearing and seeing, reading, writing, counting, speaking, analyzing, alphabetizing, lifting and carrying under 15 lbs, perceiving depth, operating a motor vehicle, and motor equipment.

Working inside or around machines, with moving parts, radiative or electrical energy, alone or with others, protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, or airplane.

Use of equipment including computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
