Sweetwater Independent School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered 1st Grade Teacher to join the team at East Ridge. Position Overview
The 2nd Grade Reading Teacher will provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction focused on developing foundational literacy skills, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The ideal candidate will create a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters a love of reading and meets the diverse needs of all learners.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality Tier 1 reading instruction aligned to state standards
Implement structured literacy practices, including explicit phonics instruction
Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and interventions
Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Differentiate instruction to support all learners, including struggling readers and advanced students
Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Maintain a safe, engaging, and literacy-rich classroom environment
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certification (Core Subjects EC–6 preferred)
Strong knowledge of early literacy development and the science of reading
Experience with data-driven instruction and intervention strategies preferred
Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)
Sweetwater ISD participates in the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment, providing additional compensation for highly effective teachers based on designation level:
Recognized:
$7,683 annually
Exemplary:
$15,367 annually
Master:
$27,611 annually
Allotment amounts vary from year to year.
