Position: Night Custodian
Location: Milford Central Academy
Reports To: Building Chief and Principal
Starting Date: May 2026
Position Summary
Custodial team members support Milford Central Academy and Milford School District by maintaining clean, safe, and functional school facilities. Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, with prior custodial, housekeeping, or maintenance experience preferred. This role requires the ability to perform daily physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders up to 15 feet, and completing routine cleaning such as scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal. Team members assist with minor maintenance repairs, equipment troubleshooting, furniture movement, and setup for special events. Custodians work collaboratively as part of a districtwide team, communicate professionally, and respond to needs across buildings as directed by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, including seasonal duties such as snow removal.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Previous experience as a custodian or in housekeeping or maintenance preferred
Performance Responsibilities
Perform repetitive daily lifting of up to 50 lbs., including lifting items to heights of 3–4 feet.
Safely climb ladders up to 15 feet.
Conduct minor maintenance repairs and assist with troubleshooting equipment issues.
Carry out custodial responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to: scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, and restroom sanitation.
Clean and disinfect classrooms, cafeterias, offices, hallways, gyms, locker rooms, nurse areas, and other school facilities.
Refill and maintain supplies such as paper products, hand soap, and sanitizer stations.
Operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet extractors.
Support daily cafeteria cleanup, including table wiping, floor maintenance, and waste disposal.
Relocate furniture, set up and break down spaces for meetings, testing, programs, or special events.
Inspect building areas regularly and report safety hazards, maintenance needs, or supply shortages.
Work collaboratively as a member of the custodial team and communicate effectively and professionally on a daily basis.
Respond to emergency district-wide custodial calls as directed by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds (e.g., responsible for immediate snow removal, emergency cleanups, weather-related conditions, secure buildings).
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment
Twelve-month (12) full-time employee
