Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland’s most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It’s like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state‑of‑the‑art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet‑sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC’s 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.
Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one‑of‑a‑kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.
The Role
Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a part‑time
Volleyball Coach
to support our competitive volleyball programming. This role works closely with the Volleyball Lead Coach and Assistant Coaches to deliver high‑quality training, competition support, and a positive athlete experience. The Volleyball Coach plays an important role in athlete development by teaching volleyball skills and game strategy while fostering sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and cooperation.
This position is ideal for individuals passionate about volleyball, youth development, and contributing to a collaborative, service‑oriented club environment.
What You’ll Do
Plan and assist with team practices, including setting individual and team performance goals
Teach and reinforce volleyball skills, game strategy, and rules in coordination with the Volleyball Lead Coach
Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive, age‑appropriate feedback
Support competitive play by assisting with tournaments and match‑day coaching
Communicate effectively with athletes and families using TeamSnap for schedules, updates, and announcements
Respond professionally and promptly to parent questions, comments, and concerns
Occasionally instruct clinics, group lessons, and private lessons
Attend all required program meetings and participate in team bonding activities
Represent Multnomah Athletic Club positively at all times—on‑site, off‑site, and in all communications with coaches, referees, parents, and participants
Stay current on competitive volleyball rules, techniques, and best practices through professional development opportunities
Comply with all MAC safety policies, identifying and reporting unsafe work conditions and workplace injuries
Comply with all USAV, CEVA, and SafeSport requirements
Promote the MAC mission, values, and commitment to high‑quality member service
Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
Local and occasional out‑of‑state travel required for tournaments
What You’ll Bring
Required
Minimum 2 years of volleyball playing experience (school, club, collegiate, intramural, or adult league)
Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and scheduling platforms
Ability to work effectively in a service‑oriented, member‑focused environment
Preferred
Youth coaching experience
Experience working in club or competitive volleyball programs
Certifications
Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and SafeSport certifications, or ability to obtain within three months of hire
