Job Summary
As a Project Estimator for Chesterton’s Fluid Efficiency Repair Center, your primary responsibility is to assess customer requirements, evaluate project scope, and provide accurate cost estimates for repair, maintenance, and overhaul projects. You will work closely with the sales team, shop management, and shop technicians to ensure timely and competitive estimates, contributing to the overall success and profitability of the organization.

Responsibilities
Consistent, regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Collaborate with customers to understand their project requirements, specifications, and desired outcomes.
Engage vendors for parts availability and pricing.
Maintain regular communication with customers to address inquiries, clarify project details, and provide updates on estimated costs.
Project Evaluation and Scope Definition:
Review project documentation, including pump curves, drawings, and specifications.
In partnership with mechanics and shop management, analyze equipment condition, identify repair needs, and assess the feasibility of repair versus replacement.
Translate the defined scope of work required for each project into a formal proposal, considering factors such as materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracting requirements.
Utilize cost estimation software & procedures, historical data, and industry benchmarks to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
Prepare detailed breakdowns of costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and any additional expenses.
Obtain pricing from vendors and work with procurement personnel to obtain required materials and components.
Complexity of Duties
Work closely with the sales team to ensure estimates align with customer expectations and company profitability targets.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project managers to obtain their input and validate the accuracy of estimates.
Coordinate with subcontractors or external vendors, obtaining quotes and integrating their costs into the overall estimate.
Collaborate with shop Planner, Purchasing Agent, Receiving and management team to support customer and shop personnel needs.
Prepare comprehensive and detailed estimates, including supporting documentation and backup data.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all estimates, revisions, and customer communications.
Generate reports summarizing estimate details, project status, and any notable variations or risks.
Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to rotating equipment and pump repair.
Identify opportunities to streamline estimation processes, enhance accuracy, and improve cost competitiveness.
Participate in regular review meetings to share insights, provide feedback, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
Solid understanding of procurement processes, vendor management, and subcontracting.
Advanced written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
Highly skilled in customer interface and communications.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to strict deadlines.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices within the repair and maintenance industry.
Ability to excel within a team environment.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred or 4‑6 years related industry experience.
Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, and associated repair processes.
Familiarity with estimating software and proficiency in using relevant tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, Dynamics CRM).
