Energy Operations Advisor – Realtime Operator

In this job, you’ll be part of the Southern California Generation Operation Center that is responsible for managing SCE’s diverse fleet of renewable & conventional generation, intertie, and demand side resources while ensuring least cost dispatch and regulatory compliance in a dynamic 24 x 7 operational environment.
You will work rotating 12‑hour shifts and perform scheduling coordinator functions in the California Independent System Operator’s (CAISO) wholesale power market and the CAISO regional Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) as well as the Extended Day Ahead Market (EDAM). You will also be responsible for purchasing and selling energy and transmission as needed to serve our customer’s energy needs.

Responsibilities
Purchases and sells energy and transmission to meet company objectives. Champions incident‑free operations and continuous improvement.
Provides updates to management on market trends and developments from the transmission / energy transportation perspective.
Develops relationships with traders to enhance cohesion, functionality and integrity of data and trading opportunities.
Collaborates closely with commercial team to help optimize asset utilization.
Provides day‑to‑day scheduling and operations for trading teams, including activities such as quality control and loss prevention.
Identifies and supports efficiencies and improvements with operational processes. Assists traders and the technology team with asset outage planning and testing.
Participates in the scheduling of electrical generation required to meet customer usage and system requirements.
Optimizes transmission in order to minimize cost and flow risks.
Ensures protection of all physical, financial and cybersecurity assets and manages sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
Seven or more years of experience in wholesale energy markets, resource outages or plant operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Business, or related field.
Three or more years of experience in plant operations, energy, finance or commodities markets.
Two or more years of experience with outage management in wholesale power markets.
Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
Ability to respond to short notice callout.
Experience acting as a Scheduling Coordinator in CAISO or other balancing area with ability to follow standardized instructions and procedures such as tariffs, business process manuals, NERC operating procedures, and internal operating processes while utilizing the full suite of BA software applications such as ADS, SIBR, CMRI, BSAP, OMS, and CIDI.
Experience with generation dispatching, energy scheduling, energy trading, transmission purchasing, and e‑tags via software, telephone, radio, computer and internet‑based systems.
Experience with control system software such as SCADA, EMS, or GMS.
NERC System Operator Certification.
Experience and strong/advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products with emphasis in Excel and Word including VBA.
Experience making decisions or recommendations guided by compliance requirements, company policies, procedures, rules, or management directions.
Experience with real time trading and a track record of solid decision‑making in the real time market.
Able to analyze & interpret operational data, exercise discernment, draw conclusions and take action even when the data are incomplete or ambiguous.
Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to formulate and communicate operational directives and maintain a written log of all significant activities.
Ability to effectively collaborate with clients, peers, management, support staff, and vendors to successfully meet department objectives.
Able to successfully complete work in stressful conditions while under deadline driven time pressures.

This position’s work mode is
on‑site . The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
