Founded in August of 2011 by the Grimm Family Education Foundation, GPS is committed to serving the Kern County community through high-quality public education. GPS currently operates two TK-8 schools, Grow Academy Arvin and Grow Academy Shafter, serving more than 1,600 students.
Summary Description
The Library Clerk helps create a welcoming, organized space where scholars can enjoy books and build a love of reading. This part-time role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, staying organized, and supporting students in finding books they’re excited about.
Responsibilities
Maintains an efficient system of classifying, cataloging, and circulating all library materials and checks out Library books and materials using Alexandria software
Partners with teachers to provide books that support classroom units and themes
Creates documents or spreadsheets to support Library organization and use
Assists with planning and execution of school literacy events such as Read Across America Week, Scholastic Book Fair, and Literacy Night
Makes ordering recommendations to site leaders as needed
Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities
Provide literacy support by listening to students read and asking prepared comprehension questions
Assist the front office as needed during busy periods, breaks, or lunch coverage
Related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with the Dewey system and brick-and-mortar libraries
Demonstrated passion for reading and literacy
Knowledge of Google Suite including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sheets
Experience working with diverse learners
Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
At least one year of experience working in a school or similar setting
Physical requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee is occasionally required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. Specific hearing abilities are required by this job.
