Field Service Technician Trainee (CC-Carlsbad)

Summary
This position is responsible for learning the basic maintenance functions, procedures, activities and responsibilities associated with working on gas compression packages under direct supervision. Duties include learning from and assisting other senior level technicians with servicing, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning of compressor packages. The purpose of the trainee level is to acquire a degree of proficiency in performing all maintenance actions with direct supervision that will allow for progression to the Field Service Technician I level.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, tune‑up, calibrate, adjust and monitor prime movers and their rotating equipment.

Execute start‑up, shut‑down, and recommended operating procedures for compressors, electric motors, generators, fans, pumps, instrumentation, valves and alarms.

Troubleshoot major and minor repairs of engines, compressors, generators, pumps and various accessories and components, as well as controls including governors, actuators, starters, pumps, voltage regulators in addition to control panel components such as gauges (digital and analog), sending units (thermocouples, transducers), solenoids, relays, etc.

Become knowledgeable on engine and compressor oil and coolant analysis.

Be proficient with the theory, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of air/fuel ratio controllers and other engine emission control devices.

Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, contractors, and vendors.

Perform rebuilds and overhauls of equipment, its various components and accessories as required.

Ensure that engine and rotating equipment operates in a state of tune and is set up to company and customers’ standards.

Employ good housekeeping practices. Engine and compressor skids to be maintained to minimize free oil and water to prevent possible injuries.

Maintain truck, tools, and dedicated workspace (in shop, onsite or other) in good working order including minor maintenance of truck and attachments. Drivers provide individual accountability for hand tools and other specialty diagnostic equipment.

Complete work orders in a timely manner with thorough descriptions of tasks performed and accurate mileage with customer’s signature.

Comply with Federal DOT guidelines for drivers of service vehicles weighing more than 10,000 lbs., including maintaining log books, and effectively coordinating service work with supervisor to comply with hourly limitations.

Comply with Gas Drive Global’s HSE and maintenance standards.

Qualifications

No experience necessary, 1‑year applicable and transferable experience preferred.

Receives training and becomes effective in the first level of repair and maintenance for rotating equipment. Supervisor or lead functions as a coach until employee masters assigned tasks.

Accepts and performs tasks assigned within specified timelines while gaining physical and technical knowledge of equipment and the purpose of assigned tasks.

Completes work assignments utilizing established procedures and safe work practices.

Accepts training and performs repair and maintenance assignments in field compression, power generation, rotating equipment, and any other unspecified duties assigned.

Must master data entry prior to advancement to Technician I.

Good communicator and team member.

Works under the guidance of Technician I and higher classifications.

Ability to pass GE Waukesha GET certification.

Training includes additional GE Waukesha and Ariel basic compressor fundamentals or equivalent programs.

Physical Requirements
During the duties of this job, the employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently stands, walks, climbs or balances, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee regularly and/or frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and infrequently/occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and adverse outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
