The Department of Corrections is looking for an energetic Corrections Equipment Operator who is ready to take on a meaningful role at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position plays an important role in moving freight and supporting daily operations at the facility. It involves guiding inmate workers and ensuring work is completed safely and correctly.
As a Corrections Equipment Operator, you will perform the following duties:
Vehicle Operation: Operate tractor-trailers, trucks, and other vehicles as part of daily assignments
Equipment Upkeep: Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment
Work Documentation: Complete and submit required receipts, logs, and reports according to policies and guidelines
Inmate Oversight: Train and monitor inmate workers in safe and proper methods for loading, unloading, and repairing equipment
Work Area Security: Safeguard tools and materials, maintain inventories, and search inmates and work areas for contraband
WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Full‑time employment, 40‑hour work week
Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday – Friday
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes)
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
Two years of experience in the operation of tractor‑trailer trucks; or
A combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
Additional Requirements
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
