Middle School Classroom Teacher – Grades 6‑8

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

Develops and administers middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.

Promotes a safe, conducive classroom environment that supports individualized and small group instruction.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into learning experiences.

Teaches all required subject matters assigned to the grade level, including reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including those with special needs; provides small group instruction as needed.

Instructs students on responsible citizenship and subject matters specified in applicable laws and school policies.

Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.

Organizes and maintains accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance.

Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.

Ensures student conduct conforms to school and district policies and establishes standards of behavior for a functional learning environment.

Coordinates with other middle school staff to evaluate curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional supplies and maintains inventory records.

Supervises students during out‑of‑classroom activities and transportation.

Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
May travel to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction.

Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts across all subject matters.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action planning.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.

Ability to use computer and network systems and software applications.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.

Physical and Mental Demands
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License: State certification as a Middle School Teacher; preferred state certification in appropriate subject matter; motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to provide own transportation.

Education

Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in an educational discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
