Responsibilities
Lead high quality group fitness classes, as directed by the program manager, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals
Create a welcoming and engaging group fitness experience with a focus on safety, quality, and member engagement
Teach effective, safe and enjoyable exercise classes using proper explanations on exercise form, progressions, cueing techniques and incorporation of music (if applicable)
Demonstrate the Y’s core values and attributes in all interactions with staff, members and guests
Track class attendance using the Y’s designated processes and systems
Develop positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance
Encourage member involvement in the Y and identifies potential volunteers and donors
Conduct class announcements as designated by branch staff
Operate all equipment properly and promptly report any problems to branch staff
Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary
Obtain a substitute instructor when needed
MMA, Karate, and other modalities of fitness included
Qualifications
Minimum age of 18 years
Required Certifications: current state approved First Aid and CPR/AED, current, National Certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in-group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Certification
Minimum 1 year of experience teaching group fitness classes preferred
Current “specialty class” certifications as required: such as MOSSA, Silver Sneakers, Zumba, Mat Pilates, etc
Demonstrated ability to teach group exercise in a proficient manner. Ability to instruct and observe participants using proper exercise techniques
Ability to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence
Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency
Must have solid fitness industry knowledge
