Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $94,200 - $110,000.

Job Closing Date
This position is approved to work remotely 1 day per week (with four days in‑office). Initial applicant review will take place on or about May 11, 2026. Posting will close upon selection. Applicants requiring visa sponsorship will not be considered for this position.

About The Job
The Data Services Administrator leads the Data Services team within Advancement Services, overseeing the administration, integration, and optimization of key information systems, including the donor and alumni CRM, online engagement platforms, and payment portals. This role combines strategic oversight with operational management, ensuring data integrity, reporting accuracy, and scalable solutions that support the university's advancement goals. The Data Services Administrator provides actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership, drives process improvements, and supervises a team of data professionals to deliver efficient, reliable, and innovative services across the advancement portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Administers the donor and alumni relations database, online payment portals and related information systems, including maintaining user accounts, committing global changes, reporting, authoring queries, and overseeing data integrity projects. Integrates biographical and transactional data from external systems including the student information system, online transaction systems and prospect research systems as appropriate. Maintains standards including security, accuracy, data loading and duplicate elimination. Serves as a liaison with the UC Merced Information Technology staff on infrastructure to ensure improvements to the database, testing of updates, and adherence to University security practices.

Meets with end‑users to establish and analyze user requirements, needs and specifications as required for their reporting needs. Interprets their requests, understands what they need and why, and designs and delivers effective products tailored for each target audience. Acts as a resource to others to solve problems; ensures that decision‑makers are aware of the risks and limitations of data, information, and analyses provided.

Designs custom and ad‑hoc reports to monitor fundraising performance, generate lists, and provide data‑driven insights about constituents. Compiles, reviews, and verifies data for mandated reporting requirements including University of California Office of the President quarterly and annual reports, Voluntary Support for Education (VSE) reports, Campaign Progress reports and other reports as requested by senior management and Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships staff. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable policies and procedures related to private support to ensure report integrity.

Supervises a staff of two Data Services Staff, including responsibility for performance management, training, and career development. Delegates duties and projects according to staff ability and workloads. This position requires responsibility for supervising, directing, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees and exercising independent judgment in the administration of department policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area from an accredited institution.

5 years of experience working with Advancement/Alumni/Development databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge / Raiser’s Edge NXT, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Banner, CRM/ERP systems).

Experience designing, building, and maintaining dashboards and analytical reports using business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent), with responsibility for data modeling, validation, and user training.

Experience working in a public research university environment characterized by shared governance and complex departmental structures.

Experience supervising technical staff, including mentoring/training, performance management, and workload prioritization.

Experience with financial applications and financial reporting.

Advanced knowledge of advancement operations and data structures (constituents, gifts, relationships, households, prospect management).

Advanced knowledge of advancement CRMs (e.g., Raiser’s Edge/NXT, Encompass, Salesforce, or Ellucian Advance).

Background check required.
