Highway Design Engineer
Location: Longview, TX

Position summary: Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Development of schematic design and PS&E in Texas

Perform alternative studies

Organize and coordinate design elements with teaming partners

Analyze survey data, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

Perform design computations

Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software MicroStation, Geopak, or ORD

Develop construction cost estimates

Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Support other teams when needed to accomplish company milestones

Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel & Outlook. MS Project)

Required Experience

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Engineer in Training (Texas)

0-5 years of Highway Design

Experience with establishing project specific design criteria meeting Client standards

Ability to use MicroStation, Geopak and/or OpenRoads Designer to generate roadway horizontal and vertical alignments

Experience with design and development of cross sections, and/or 3D models

Experience with utilizing the TMUTCD to develop traffic control plans, and signing and marking layouts

Experience with design and preparation of SW3P plans

Experience generating plans, specifications, and estimates for highway/roadway projects for TxDOT and other government agencies

Experience with local clients at the county and state level

Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
