Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op Summer 2026

For college students interested in engineering design for the built environment, CMTA offers a robust co‑op program for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering. The co‑op provides hands‑on experience working on real construction projects under the mentorship of professional engineers in AutoCAD and Revit.

This is a full‑time (40 hrs/week) onsite position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligibility for overtime. The position will start May 2026 and run through summer, with dates flexible to accommodate the school calendar. Co‑op students may be considered for full‑time employment upon graduation.

Job Description

This opportunity offers hands‑on training in mechanical/HVAC/Energy design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well within a team and independently. Engineers will teach the student co‑op how to design and implement mechanical systems and energy‑efficient measures in building projects.

Job Functions

Produce detailed layout and equipment details of HVAC systems
Produce one‑line diagrams/schematics
Assist the design team in assembling organized sets of drawings
Assist in data collection and/or field verification
Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project
Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year) or junior (3rd year)
Strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering
AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to work both independently and with a team
Full‑time availability throughout the co‑op term
Ability to travel locally for job‑site inspections and field work
