Job Summary
The operating room scheduling coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the daily schedules of surgical procedures in the operating room. This role ensures optimal utilization of operating room resources, maintains accurate records, and collaborates with surgical teams to provide efficient and effective patient care. It is the central link between physician office staff, operating room staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing teams, surgical vendor teams, and other administrative personnel.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, ensuring optimal use of operating room time and resources.
Create a welcoming, professional environment while engaging with physician office staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to verify schedules and efficiently resolve conflicts.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of surgical schedules, patient information, and operating room utilization.
Monitor and adjust schedules as needed to accommodate emergencies, cancellations, and changes in patient status.
Proactively identify scheduling conflicts or inefficiencies, communicate with the relevant parties to facilitate resolutions, and implement best practices to streamline workflow.
Attend and contribute to daily 5 Day Look-Ahead meetings to ensure any issues are addressed including preventing cancellations and delays.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to operating room scheduling.
Provide administrative support to the surgical services department, including data entry, report generation, and record keeping.
Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in healthcare scheduling, preferably in a surgical or operating room setting.
Ability to travel between local HCA hospitals to provide support when needed.
The position requires the employee to live and perform the duties of the position within the DFW Market area.
