Job Description
Overall Purpose
– The job of teacher is to provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback.
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents or guardians, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
Directs others working with and/or helping the teacher in the learning environment (assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers) to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
Monitors students in various educational environments (classroom, field trips, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Participates in meetings (Professional Learning Communities, etc.) to convey or gather information required to perform functions.
Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, meeting minutes, etc.) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
Reports suspected child or substance abuse to assigned site administrator to maintain student safety and adhere to regulatory requirements.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (other teachers, parents, administrators, industry-specific organizations) to resolve issues and provide information.
Responds to emergency situations (student behavior problems, health emergencies, security threats) to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements
Valid teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field.
Physical Requirements
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity; approximately 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing.
Continuing Education/Training
Maintains all licenses and certifications.
Clearances
Criminal Justice Fingerprint; Background Clearance Fair.
