Job Summary and Qualifications
Under general supervision and according to established hospital and nursing department policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties including EKG monitoring and interpretation, compiling, transcribing, preparing and maintaining records in a specific nursing area or unit. Provides information and communication services to visitors and staff. Assists nursing staff in maintaining efficient operations on the unit.
Essential Functions
Accurately runs, documents and analyzes rhythm strips on all patients according to unit standards.
Document rhythm changes and places strip in chart notifying RN/Charge RN/LPN as appropriate. Ensures hand‑off at change of shift and previous breaks.
Responds immediately to all monitor alarms. Ensures RN/Charge RN/LPN is notified of any changes in patient rhythm, rate, signal interference, lead off, and need for assessment of patient.
Troubleshoot patient monitoring equipment and notifies biomedical engineering promptly of any unresolved equipment issues.
Contributes to a culture of patient‑centered care by ensuring a quiet healing environment.
Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED equivalent required.
Successful completion of an EKG course and exam.
Current BLS required on all nursing clinical units; BLS/BCLS issued by AHA or American Red Cross required.
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills; ability to read and comprehend written instructions; ability to follow verbal instructions; PC skills; knowledge of indications and adverse reactions of cardiac IV medications.
