Position Summary: Responsible for ensuring that all fire protection systems are installed, inspected, tested, and documented in full compliance with approved drawings, submittals, NFPA standards, and project specifications. This role supports construction teams, coordinates inspections, and manages documentation to ensure successful system acceptance and project turnover. Represents TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner.
Responsibilities and Duties
Review fire sprinkler system drawings and shop drawings for code compliance and constructability.
Verify installation aligns with approved drawings and submittals.
Ensure all materials installed match approved submittals and specifications.
Hangers and seismic bracing
Sprinkler head spacing and coverage
Obstructions
Low point drains
Generate and track the Fire Protection Trade (TP) punch list.
Review and assist with resolution of general contractor punch list items related to fire protection systems.
Confirm piping layout and sprinkler head placement comply with applicable NFPA standards.
Verify proper installation of flex drops and associated brackets.
Attend hydrostatic inspections and complete/sign required documentation.
Manage required testing documentation, including above-ground test certificates.
Conduct owner training on system operation, inspection, and maintenance requirements.
Attend and support equipment startups, including fire pumps and monitoring systems.
Ensure all NFPA-required signage and labeling are installed prior to project closeout.
Provide regular QA/QC status updates to the Project Manager.
Identify efficiencies, communicate them promptly, and track corrective actions through completion.
Travel between regions to support multiple projects.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
M inimum 3–7+ years of experience in fire protection systems, QA/QC, or construction inspection
Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems including wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems, standpipes, and fire pumps
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA standards such as NFPA 13, 14, 20, and 25)
Experience ensuring compliance with local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements
Job Skills
Strong knowledge of fire protection systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge systems)
Deep understanding of code compliance and inspection procedures
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and hydraulic calculations
High attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Strong written documentation and reporting skills
Effective communication and coordination across field and office teams
Time management and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, BIM/VDC platforms, and inspection/reporting software
Understanding of testing procedures (hydrostatic testing, flow testing, alarm verification, etc.)
Education
High school diploma or GED required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred
Field experience with mechanical or fire protection contractors strongly preferred
Special Requirements
Valid Driver's License
OSHA 30 certification
