Position Summary
Ensures the efficient and orderly pre-registration, registration, insurance verification, and authorization for facility‑based procedures. Prepares admission forms, obtains necessary documentation and signatures, confirms demographic information at time of service, collects co‑pay and deductible amounts, and provides support and organization to the departments.
Position Duties
Obtains and documents demographic and financial information; contacts patient/parent/responsible party by phone to obtain current demographic and insurance information, updates accounts in the Hospital Information System (HIM) for registration, scheduling, and billing.
Obtains authorization for procedures; determines by payor which procedures require authorization and documents all information accurately.
Accurately documents in patient account and prioritizes workflow; provides timely documentation for patient accounts explaining activities and interactions.
Registers patients into procedure area; verifies insurance coverage, collects co‑pay and deductible amounts, obtains necessary signatures, and ensures accurate entry into HIS.
Provides customer service; answers telephone and in-person inquiries courteously and promptly.
Maintains positive relationships with patients, guarantors, insurance companies, government entities, clinical personnel, co‑workers, and management to promote teamwork and a positive public image.
Participates in continuing education programs to maintain current skill and competency levels.
Provides feedback to management regarding work‑related problems and assists with resolution.
Provides administrative support for the unit, including supply orders, communication facilitation, scheduling, copying, faxing, electronic documentation, and preparation of agendas and minutes.
Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
One (1) year of administrative support experience (Associate in Business or related field may substitute).
Minimum of one year of medical registration experience.
Experience with HIPAA Privacy Act.
Special Skills:
Experience in a Windows environment using MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel).
