Purpose Statement
The job of Landscape & Support Services Specialist (JC706) is to maintain, improve, enhance, and remove hazards from grounds and buildings, ensuring an attractive, safe, and functional condition; provide building support services; and ensure assignments are completed safely, efficiently, and effectively.
This job reports to the Supervisor—Landscape & Support Services.
Essential Functions
Apply pesticide/herbicide applications, managing materials inventory, record keeping, spraying schedules, and chemical usage to preserve grounds health and safety while complying with state and product safety requirements.
Assist in training new employees and seasonal staff, providing necessary skills for effective and efficient work performance.
Earn and maintain certifications and training such as low‑voltage licensing, playground certification, pesticide applicator licensing, forklift training/CDL license, irrigation certification, heavy equipment operation, etc., to perform the job safely and efficiently.
Clean landscaped areas, storm drains, walkways, etc., to prevent flooding and remove trash or hazards.
Collaborate with Landscape Support Services and other site administrators to coordinate scheduling of work (e.g., adjusting irrigation and spraying schedules, field preparations).
Communicate with custodial staff to ensure completion of work orders.
Conduct bi‑weekly vehicle inspections and annual fire extinguisher inspections (including inspection, installation, servicing, tagging, and records maintenance) to ensure compliance with city, state, and district requirements.
Deliver tables, chairs, and supplies for school events (e.g., wrestling mats, scoreboards, bleachers, tables, chairs, pennant rope, fencing, signage, award stands, golf carts, other equipment) to set up tournaments or other activities, ensuring all required items are in place.
Implement district fire extinguisher inspections (inspection, installation, servicing, tagging, and evaluation of distance requirements in school buildings, vehicles, buses and heavy equipment) and maintain records of annual inspections.
Inform the supervisor of procedures, status of work orders, or any issues to aid decision‑making and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Inspect assigned work‑unit equipment and fixtures, ensuring they meet reporting requirements and safety standards.
Install and repair irrigation systems, inspecting for leaks and ensuring building safety.
Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles through scheduled maintenance, cleaning, and daily inspections to keep them in safe operating condition.
Repair and enhance various types of fencing, including snow fence installation/removal, chain link, split rail, cedar privacy fence, vinyl, etc., via yearly inspections and routine maintenance.
Maintain and enhance landscaping, athletic fields, parking lots, sidewalks, and sprinkler systems (mowing/ trimming lawns, raking leaves, picking up trash, planting/pruning trees and hedges, patching asphalt, repairing irrigation) to preserve healthy, attractive, and safe grounds.
Maintain confidentiality regarding personnel and student issues (records, medical data, surveillance, student data) to protect privacy.
Operate heavy equipment and attachments (bobcat, forklift, backhoe, bucket truck, mower, dump truck, scissor lift) to maintain district grounds and buildings.
Perform site evaluations for irrigation leaks, cracks, safety hazards, drainage issues, fire hazards to ensure safety.
Perform related tasks such as concrete work, painting and marking athletic fields, pruning, trimming, cleaning security camera lenses, maintaining synthetic fields to ensure safe and attractive environment.
Perform snow removal and ice melt/sand applications for district parking and other areas, ensuring timely snow removal.
Procure materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure adequate inventory for timely assignment completion.
Respond to emergency situations during or after work hours (e.g., snow removal, irrigation issues) to resolve immediate safety concerns and ensure safe opening of schools when bad weather is imminent.
Transport items for other departments when assistance is needed (sand, dirt, furniture, equipment, supplies, fertilizer, scaffolding, books, robotics, tables, chairs, scissor lift) to provide materials at job sites and school sites as required.
Other Functions
Attend meetings (department, work unit, etc.) to convey and/or receive information.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Education
High school graduation or GED.
Certificates and Licenses
Valid Driver’s License & evidence of insurability.
Pesticide Applicator’s License within 6 months of hire.
Asbestos Certification within 6 months of hire.
CPR/AED First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.
